His first solo album was released in 2002, with his own Jazz Fusion band New Shoes, featuring Marc Cecil, Andy Staples and Sam Edwards. This marked a return to his jazz roots.

Entitled 'See you on the ice', the album was recorded at clowns pocket studios owned and run by Sax Appeal supremo Derek Nash. Two other guests completed the line-up of musicians; vocalist Claire Harper and guitarist of the year Guthrie Govern who took time off from a world tour with rock super group Asia to compliment the album with his stunning guitar versatility.

The album features original material as well as eclectic cover versions. It was launched on December 8th 2002. New Shoes has continued to play live since on the British Jazz scene ever since. Graeme is currently back in the studio and writing material for a second New Shoes album, 'Life above the scratch line' that was released in 2013.  As part of The Raging Horns brass section he is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest session players.
